Our approach

At IHS Towers, we are dedicated to engineering excellence. We provide a wide range of communications infrastructure solutions and managed services to help our customers achieve their connectivity goals. Our customers include mobile network operators (MNOs), internet service providers, broadcasters, security functions and private corporations needing point-to-point secure communications.

Innovation is at the heart of our business, and as demand for connectivity continues to soar our focus is on realizing value, reducing costs, and securing sustainable energy supplies where possible. Today, solar and hybrid solutions form a key part of our offering and in October 2022, we published our Carbon Reduction Roadmap, a comprehensive strategy for decreasing our emissions. Across our operations, we share our expert engineering knowledge to bring new, best-in-class solutions. By working collaboratively with our customers, we help them deliver their long-term network strategies, roll out 3G, 4G and 5G, and deepen connectivity in both urban and rural settings.

We believe we provide a differentiated approach through our advanced Network Operating Centers (NOCs), bespoke remote monitoring on most sites, site acquisition and maintenance teams. We have a strong network of partners in the fields of security, power management equipment, site deployment / and construction, that help safeguard our sites and protect network uptime. Through the 24-hour monitoring, preventative and corrective maintenance of sites, our NOCs enable us to be more efficient, enhancing our service delivery and competitiveness.

Our solutions

  • Colocation and lease amendments

    Scalable existing solutions

    Colocation and Lease Amendment

Colocation is the addition of customers to an existing tower alongside current customers effectively reducing the overall cost and environmental impact of telecommunications operations.

Lease amendments involve installing additional equipment or providing ancillary services for existing customers at existing towers.

  • New sites

    Build to suit solutions

    New sites (Build-to-Suit or BTS)

Where required, we construct new towers for customers, enabling them to expand their networks. We handle every step of the project to build a site specific to each customer’s requirements.

This includes site analysis (land surveys, environmental site assessment, geo-technical analysis, zoning and permitting); site acquisition; permitting and legal due diligence; site development; construction management; and equipment installation, operation and management. We offer camouflaged, or harmonized solutions to minimize visual pollution. We also develop interim solutions for seasonal or temporary events.

If a new tower site cannot be constructed, we provide adaptable solutions such as pole mounted and rooftop mounted masts. The antennas in all our solutions can be utilized for different wireless technology applications including voice, data and radio.

  • Inbuilding solutions

    Efficient and discreet solutions

    Inbuilding solutions

We offer connected solutions for large buildings requiring robust mobile services, such as hotels, offices, metro stations, airports, stadiums and shopping malls. Known as Distributed Antenna System (DAS), this is an efficient and discreet way of creating better coverage for operators.

  • Small cell

    Infrastructure to suit urban areas

    Small cell

In high-density urban centers, we can install non-intrusive small cells on commercial premises, lampposts, and poles to help meet rising consumer demand by improving network coverage and quality.

Our equipment uses urban furniture to enable mobile network operators to deliver more visually discrete solutions and meet rising consumer demand for mobile connectivity in rapidly growing urban areas.

  • Fiber connectivity

    Support with digital strategies

    Fiber connectivity

Fiber connectivity is increasingly important in the markets in which we operate to facilitate the 4G and 5G service offerings of our customers. To meet these market requirements, we deliver “last mile” fiber to towers in certain African markets and access fiber connectivity in Brazil.

  • Rural telephony

    Remote location solutions

    Rural telephony

In remote locations where people do not currently benefit from mobile connectivity we offer rural telephony solutions.

In these areas, traditional network strategies prohibit mobile operators from providing services due to high equipment deployment, maintenance, and tower costs, coupled with usually very low customer penetration and ARPU against lower population densities. Our rural telephony services bridge this connectivity gap by using open-source software and satellite solutions to deploy ‘bolt on’ individual base stations. These base stations can be entirely powered 24/7 by solar systems with integrated lithium-ion batteries, and by removing reliance on traditional diesel generators, we provide a more sustainable and cost-effective solution to some of the remotest communities.
