IHS Brazil Completes DAS Installation at Navegantes Airport

March, 26, 2024, São Paulo: IHS Brazil, part of the IHS Holding Limited (NYSE: IHS) (“IHS Towers”) group, one of the largest owners, operators, and independent developers of shared communications infrastructure in the world by tower count, has completed the installation of Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) at Navegantes Airport, one of 17 airports managed by CCR Aeroportos in Brazil. The DAS will also be operated by IHS Brazil.

DAS provide a suitable connectivity solution for large indoor environments, and some outdoor areas of airports, subway stations, shopping malls, hospitals, and corporate buildings where there are physical barriers to signal spread, such as concrete walls and metal structures. A set of internal antennas strategically positioned and connected by fiber optic cables help further expand and improve network coverage, while ground-level antennas are designed to transmit the 5G signal more effectively to achieve maximum speed and low latency. This solution provides high data transfer capacity which also supports Internet of things (IoT) and machine-to-machine devices, including equipment automation, security devices, vending and card machines.

Cassio Futuro, Commercial and Operations Director, IHS Brazil, said “We are proud to help facilitate better connectivity at Brazilian airports, offering mobile phone operators high-quality infrastructure that will benefit the passengers who travel to these terminals every day. By providing the DAS infrastructure, we are contributing to a better user experience and helping increase the operating efficiency of each airport.

Monique Henriques, Executive Retail Manager, CCR Aeroportos, noted “One of CCR Aeroportos first steps on taking over the administration of its airports in March 2022, was to increase the free internet access speed by 10 times. Improving the communications infrastructure further is essential to increasing the connectivity and quality of this service, promoting more comfort and a better experience for our visitors.”
