IHS Brazil Expands Connectivity at Afonso Pena Airport in Partnership with Motiva Airports

November 18, 2025, São Paulo: IHS Brazil, part of the IHS Towers (NYSE: IHS) (“IHS Towers”) group, one of the largest independent owners, operators, and developers of shared communications infrastructure in the world by tower count, today announces the expansion of its Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) project at Afonso Pena Airport in São José dos Pinhais, Curitiba (PR) metropolitan area. This is the largest undertaking among the 16 airports included in IHS Brazil’s partnership with Motiva Airports (formerly CCR Aeroportos).

Afonso Pena Airport is one of the main terminals in southern Brazil, handling approximately 500,000 passengers and 800,000 tons of cargo per month, with more than 140 scheduled flights daily.

Cutting-edge technology for enhanced connectivity

The solution implemented at Afonso Pena Airport uses the same technology applied by IHS Brazil on Line 5-Lilac of the São Paulo subway - DAS with Fiber-To-The-Antenna (FTTA) - and will help the largest mobile network operators (MNOs) in Brazil to provide faster and more stable connectivity to terminal workers and passengers. The internal system will have 45 irradiation points for 4G technology, operating on 1800MHz, 2100MHz, and 2600MHz frequencies in 2x2 Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MIMO), and 45 points for 5G technology (3500MHz), distributed across three indoor sections covering all internal areas of the airport.

In addition, three outdoor sections will deliver coverage to the runways, parking lots and the terminal’s entrances, overcoming physical barriers such as concrete walls and metal structures that traditionally hinder signal propagation.

This project is part of a larger initiative designed to strengthen connectivity in indoor environments, such as airports, shopping malls, hospitals and factories. IHS Brazil has already completed the installation of DAS technology at the airports of Navegantes (SC), Palmas (TO), São Luís (MA), Foz do Iguaçu (PR) and Goiânia (GO). Additional DAS technology rollouts are planned at other airports in Motiva Airports' portfolio in 2026.

Alexandre Katz, Operations Director of IHS Brazil, commented, "We are excited to move forward with this large-scale project with Motiva Airports, with Afonso Pena Airport as our largest undertaking. This project reinforces our commitment to providing state-of-the-art communications infrastructure and highlights the importance of strategic partnerships in enhancing the connectivity experience in Brazil. With integrated 4G and 5G technologies, we will help MNOs provide passengers at Afonso Pena Airport with a high-quality connection, meeting the growing demand for data and supporting improvements in the terminal’s operational efficiency."
