IHS Côte d'Ivoire was launched in October 2012. We acquired MTN Côte d’Ivoire Towers in 2013, and subsequently signed a Management with License to Lease contract with Orange Côte d’Ivoire.
IHS Côte d'Ivoire operates from its head office in Abidjan, and has regional offices in Korogho, Abengourou, Yamoussoukro, Daloa and San Pedro.
IHS Côte d'Ivoire currently operates numerous hybrid solar sites throughout the country and continues to roll out new green energy solution systems which select the most efficient source of power, depending on diesel supply, weather and electricity availability. IHS is committed to developing its services in Côte d'Ivoire, and assisting customers with their growth plans in urban and rural regions.
Key Sustainability Programs
In rural areas in emerging markets, a significant proportion of people’s health remains at risk due to the widespread lack of access to primary healthcare. In 2019, IHS Cote d’Ivoire organized a blood donation day, in conjunction with a blood transfusion center and some of our subcontractors, resulting in the collection of 86 blood packets.
In Cote d’Ivoire, we have focused on a number of initiatives aimed at improving education and infrastructure in rural, hard-to-reach communities. We place an emphasis on increasing ICT provisions in underprivileged communities by establishing coding labs and computer rooms in schools and orphanages. In 2020, this included refurbishing a computer room in a public mechanical and electrical school which educates 1,345 students, including 123 women, and offers Professional Studies Certificate (BEP) in electro-mechanics and mechanical welding.
To improve access to electricity and water in rural Cote d’Ivoire, we continue to support the Group’s Generator Recycling Program and have provided several hospitals and medical centers with a consistent electricity supply. In the village of Ziplignan, 350km from Abidjan, we donated and installed pipes to connect to the water supply of a nearby village. This provided the 6,500 inhabitants with their first constant water supply.
In under-privileged areas of Abidjan, children lack clean space where they can play in a healthy environment, and they also do not have access to the internet which contributes further to social exclusion. In partnership with the Marcory Council, we constructed a new recreational space for children. A site was identified in collaboration with the council and we have installed a fully equipped new park. The team has created a 500 meters’ square green space with slides, benches and free Wi-Fi access.
